Attendants are the difference between “the equipment exists” and “the system works.” A simple SOP keeps standards consistent across shifts and reduces downtime.
Shift start checklist
- walk the approach path (lighting, trip hazards, signage)
- confirm power status (no tripped breakers, no damaged cables)
- confirm water status (next refill window, any issues)
- confirm gray-water status (next pump window, access clear)
- confirm supplies (soap, towels where applicable, cleaning supplies, trash bags)
Operating cadence (every 30–60 minutes during peaks)
- quick stall reset: floors, high-touch points, trash
- check for leaks and clogs
- verify queue remains clear of ramps/egress
Incident logging
Log:
- time of issue
- what happened
- what was done
- whether escalation/vendor was contacted
Shift handoff notes
Handoff should include:
- last refill and next scheduled refill
- last pump and next scheduled pump
- open issues and owners
- supply needs
Supplies: set par levels (so you don’t run out mid-peak)
Minimum items to track:
- soap and paper products (where applicable)
- trash bags + a plan for trash staging
- cleaning supplies appropriate for the surfaces on site
- basic PPE for attendants (gloves, etc.)
- “visibility” items for night ops (flashlight/headlamp, high-vis vest)
Guest issues: keep it calm and consistent
Define one simple script for attendants:
- where to direct entry/exit
- how to escalate safety issues
- how to document incidents and follow up across shifts
Peak-hour queue etiquette (reduces conflict)
- keep entry/exit clear and consistent (don’t improvise the flow mid-peak)
- redirect lines away from ramps and egress
- use calm, short signage and repeatable instructions
- escalate early if lines exceed your planned peak capacity
